Client Attraction is often misunderstood by business owners.

You see many business owners believe the best way to get customers is through advertising.

While advertising certainly has its place in promoting small to medium size businesses, it’s only one technique of many.

To attract a steady stream of suitable customers you need to go beyond just thinking that advertising will do the trick, and consider following these steps for the best results.

Step 1 – Identify Your Dream Customer

Before you start thinking about client attraction, you need to know exactly who to attract.

You can do this by creating a detailed ideal customer profile with demographic information (age, income, and education) and psychographic information (behaviours, hobbies, and values).

If your business creates organic baby food, your target market will be parents. What kinds of parents will be most receptive to your product? What shops will they frequent? What do they expect from your brand?

Use all this information to develop a positioning statement.

Step 2 – Client Attraction Through Their Interests

You can reach out to potential customers through sharing content on websites or social media, using SEO, investing in PPC advertising, direct mail campaigns, and through public relations.

Another popular way to attract customer interest is through offering lead magnets such as coupons, eBooks, contests and free trials.

Continuing with our example above…

You may have identified that your ideal target market would be new parents in their twenties and early thirties, who live a health-conscious lifestyle and have a relatively high income.

This information should be enough to point you in the right direction in terms of what online mediums and platforms they’d be most receptive to.

You could use Facebook marketing to target people in your area and offer them a free sample in return for an email address or contact number.

Step 3 – Encourage Them To Sign Up

As mentioned above, once you’ve identified your customers, the next client attraction step is how best to reach them, you can encourage them to sign up through lead capture methods such as webforms (offering gifts in return), contact forms, and demonstrations.

Once you have a list of contacts, you need to organise your prospective and current customer information into a CRM database or management tool and begin (automated) conversations to nurture your leads and customers.
